How do I schedule an audition?
Please call the School of Music office any time after January 4, 2010 to schedule an audition.
Can I be considered for both School of Music and Marching Band Scholarship?
ABSOLUTELY!!! When you audition for the School of Music on the above dates, delcare that you'd like to be considered for a Marching Band Award as well.
I'm not interested in being a music major, I just want to do marching band. Do I need to audition on the School of Music dates?
No. If you are just looking for marching band scholarships, please email Dr. Sproul and he'll set up a separate audition for you.
MARCHING BAND AUDITIONS:
Marching Band auditions at the University of Utah are very low stress and informal auditions. Audition times are set up by emailing Dr. Sproul.
Auditions are usually set up by appointment during the week. Marching Band auditions are open from December 1 through August 1. However, to be considered for the highest scholarship amount available you should plan on auditioning before April 1.
Everyone must audition for enrollment in the group, although you should not be intimidated by this; we are currently a come-one, come-all organization. At the time of your audition, you should declare whether or not you would like to be considered for scholarship.
We allow students to enroll in marching band through Continuing Education (which means you're not a full-time student at the 'U'). It's a great way to save money attending another school and still get the amazing U of U experience.
What should you play for a Marching Band Audition?
You can play whatever you'd like. Just make sure it is representative of your best abilities.
When is the best time to audition?
The earlier the better. There is a limited amount of scholarship money available. It's best to be considered before supplies are depleted!
I want to be on the DRUMLINE! When do I audition?
Drumline auditions for the 2010-2011 line are currently scheduled for May 8, 2010. Please email Ryan Sinner for additional information. You should definitely email Ryan to express your interest.
