Prospective Members
Scholarships
There are two different types of scholarships available for band students at the University of Utah. The first is a School of Music Scholarship and the second is award money available through marching band.
SCHOOL OF MUSIC SCHOLARSHIPS:
School of Music scholarships are generally available for students interested in major/minor areas of study within the School of Music. Please see the "AUDITIONS" page for audition information.
The amount of scholarship offered is determined by a student's playing ability and the need for instrumentation within the school's ensembles. Many prospective students like to ask, "How much can I expect?" No scholarship amount will be suggested until you receive an official offer from the School of Music.
MARCHING BAND SERVICE AWARDS:
The University of Utah Marching Band is a great way to earn extra cash for school. We are well supported by the University community and have award money available for many of our students. There are a few requirements, but these are to be considered for award only. The below requirements DO NOT affect membership.
1. You must be a full time student at the University of Utah. (You must be registered for 12 credit hours.)
2. You must maintain a 2.0 GPA to be considered for future awards.
3. You must represent yourself and the University in a positive and professional manner.
YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BE A MUSIC MAJOR TO BE CONSIDERED FOR A MARCHING BAND SERVICE AWARD.
PEP BAND SERVICE AWARDS:
The University of Utah awards students for their performance in the U of U Pep Bands. In additon to Mountain West Conference and NCAA tournament travel, students are awarded for their contributions to the success of our basketball and gymnastics teams.
Upon admission to the group, you'll qualify for an award. Auditions for Pep Band are on October 7 & 8, 2010. Please contact Dr. Sproul for additional information.
VOLLEYBALL SERVICE AWARDS:
The University of Utah also awards students for their performance in the U of U Volleyball Band.
Auditions for this group are held during marching band camp. Please declare upon your arrival to the University in August of your interest. Please contact Dr. Sproul for additional information.
